For decades, the story of East African tourism has been written by outsiders and led almost entirely by men. When I looked at the tourism landscape from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, I saw a profound disconnect: local women were the backbone of our communities, yet they were entirely absent from the leadership of our economy.
Growing up in Tanzania, I watched the quiet, unstoppable resilience of our Mamas. They managed households, anchored communities, and carried the weight of the future on their shoulders. Yet, the doors to the lucrative guiding and safari industries remained firmly shut to them.
Simultaneously, I saw brilliant young girls — our Bintis — full of potential, but held back by a lack of opportunity and financial resources. I realized that to change the future, we didn't just need a tour company. We needed an entirely new economic engine.
That is why I founded Tanzania Kili Adventuress. We did not set out to just match the industry standard; we set out to completely redefine who gets to lead it.
