Tanzania Travel Guide

Everything you need to know for your Tanzania adventure

Getting There

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is the most convenient for northern Tanzania. Julius Nyerere International (DAR) serves Dar es Salaam. Most major airlines fly to Tanzania via hubs like Dubai, Doha, and Amsterdam.

Money & Payments

Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the local currency. US dollars are widely accepted for safaris and tours. ATMs are available in cities. We recommend carrying cash for tips and small purchases. Credit cards are accepted at upscale hotels.

Health & Vaccinations

Yellow fever vaccination may be required. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended. Hepatitis A/B and typhoid vaccinations are advised. Pack insect repellent and consult your doctor before traveling.

Safety

Tanzania is generally safe for tourists. Exercise normal precautions: keep valuables secure, use registered taxis, and follow your guide's advice. Our guides are trained in emergency procedures.

What to Pack

Light, breathable clothing for safaris. Layers for Kilimanjaro. Waterproof jacket. Sturdy hiking boots. Sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Binoculars for wildlife viewing. Camera with extra batteries.

Weather & Climate

Coastal areas are hot and humid. Northern Tanzania has two rainy seasons (March-May, November-December). Kilimanjaro has varied climate zones from tropical to arctic. The best weather is June-October.

Best Time to Visit

June-October for best weather and wildlife viewing. January-March for Kilimanjaro (less crowded). December-March for calving season in Serengeti. Avoid April-May (heavy rains).

Photography Tips

Carry a zoom lens for wildlife. Early morning and late afternoon offer best light. Respect park rules on flash photography. Bring extra memory cards and batteries. Consider a dust-proof bag.
