Lake Manyara National Park

Overview

Discover a diverse emerald sanctuary at the base of the Great Rift Valley with Tanzania Kili Adventures. Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its massive baboon troops, thousands of seasonal pink flamingos, and its legendary tree-climbing lions.

About

Lake Manyara National Park may be compact, but it packs an extraordinary amount of ecological diversity into a small footprint. Nestled directly beneath the sheer wall of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, your safari entry point with Tanzania Kili Adventures begins in a dense, evergreen groundwater forest. Here, bubbling underground springs feed massive mahogany and wild fig trees, creating a haven for hundreds of baboons and blue monkeys.

As the forest opens onto the expansive floodplains of the alkaline lake, the landscape completely transforms. The shallow lake waters are frequently painted pink by vast flocks of flamingos. Manyara's open acacia woodlands are where our expert guides scour the branches to spot the park's most famous residents: the unique tree-climbing lions that rest high above the ground to escape biting insects and enjoy the cool breeze.
