Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area

Overview

Descend into a self-contained wildlife paradise with Tanzania Kili Adventures. The Ngorongoro Crater, an ancient volcanic caldera, acts as a natural sanctuary for over 25,000 large mammals, offering your absolute best opportunity to view the complete Big Five in a single afternoon.

About

Formed over three million years ago when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself, the Ngorongoro Crater is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. This intact, unflooded caldera creates a unique, enclosed ecosystem where wildlife thrives year-round.

Your Tanzania Kili Adventures guide will navigate the vehicle down the steep, 600-meter forested walls onto the flat caldera floor. Here, you will explore open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and the saline waters of Lake Magadi. The crater floor offers an exceptionally high density of predators alongside massive old bull elephants and the highly protected, critically endangered black rhino.
